Searching for a support that would help you in your work or business or personal growing path, you met the Coaching. Once you ‘know’ this discipline, the question you might ask yourself is:
- “Can I benefit from this discipline? What will these eventually be?’ And further: – ‘Will this really be the help I am looking for?‘
Coaching is about a relationship between a coach and a coachee – so especially the coachee will be the most active part in the process. In this relationship you, as the coachee, will be led to take action and therefore your goals will really be yours, because you will be stimulated to proactivity. The starting block to launch this process are the expectations you have:
- What do you expect from the work with a coach? Where do you need to go? What do you intend to achieve?
In other words, why should you want the support of a Coach? The coaching process presupposes the self involvement (what do I want?) and a commitment of time and energy of both.
So, to shed light on the ‘title question’ these are the first questions that will be important to you ask yourself.
First let’s go back to some basic questions: What is coaching? How does it work? Where can the Coaching bring me?
Coaching stimulate and support people to become the protagonists by taking responsibility and commitment to their goals or to action. In this way the coachee can re-establish the right priorities in his life, that includes private sphere, business, own health and so on.
To face ever more sudden, profound changes, paradigm changes, new scenarios.
To find new solutions against insecurity in the business world
To be able to keep yourself updated to match new market demands
To search for innovative, original, contemporary and rapid solutions
Coaching leads you through the discovery and rediscovery of your great human and professional potential in achieving the goals that you have set for yourself or the targets that you will discover through the process of coaching, by a transparent, confident and proactive partnership with the coach.
HOW TO CHOOSE YOUR COACH AND WHAT TO EXPECT FROM A COACHING PARTNERSHIP?
Coaching is essentially a trust-based partnership with your coach. But how can you find suitable coaches for your situation and how can you choose the most suitable coach to support you in this process? How to recognize who will be your coach?
The agreement with the coach that will emerge from the first personal contact may be the first indicator to recognize a good partner. But clarity and further information from the coach, will guide you in the evaluation and choice. You will be able to ask the questions that arise, such as information about the coach’s training, his specializations and areas of activity, his working method, his costs, his experiences, how he does proceed in the process and others.
This will be one of the first steps towards a profitable partnership. From now on, coachee and coach will have a precise and important role.
RELATIONSHIP: WHAT IS YOUR COMMITMENT AND WHAT IS THE COACH’S COMMITMENT?
Not sure what to expect? Wondering how your coaching process will proceed? What commitment will this require from you?
Some of the roles of the coach will be to stimulate awareness, focus, self-discipline in you, in a positive and encouraging way. He will be a guide and not a counselor or solution giver.
The role of the coachee will be to build an action program suitable to reach the objectives he fixed, such as maintain a high commitment and react proactively to the challenging for renewal and assumption of responsibility set by the coach from time to time.
For sure a coaching process will involve: personal commitment, in terms of time, energy and financial resources. This will be a strong challenge for the coachee.
WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN COACHING AND OTHER DISCIPLINES?
At this point a question may arise spontaneously:
– why to choose coaching? What is different to other professionals such as a consultant, mentors, trainers rather than a therapist or others?
Let’s clarify a bit:
a consultant works in the company bringing its specific skills, which can be of a wide sort, from technical, to financial, to administrative and so on – while the coach guide you to a self-decision process, from the focusing of goals to the action plan, to the results.
a mentor leads to professional or personal growth through the sharing of their experiences which will serve as a ‘path’ or ‘starting point’; sometimes but not necessarily the coach, if needed, could act as a mentor, to bridge some moments of gap in the discovering process of the coachee.
a trainer establishes a ‘training’ program – the coach help the coachee to follow up his own program of action.
the therapist treats discomforts deriving from the past and from emotionalism – the coach is present and future oriented, towards changes and specific future results set up by the coachee.
